The Subterfuge launch party, "Let Them Eat Cake", at the Sorrento Hotel penthouse in mid-July turned out to be a full circle moment. Those people one meets early in life, who seem to be there for higher, unknown reasons, only to be in and out and in again, appear when it matters most. There were also new friends coming out to show support, enjoy the magic of a hot summer night and the beginning of something not just new in relation to me, but the project as well. Beautiful, stylish people from wall to wall, and everyone surprised they're in Seattle. Someone thanked me for bringing Manhattan to the roof top.
For awhile now, I've been seeing that there are interesting, smart, stylish people in this city. On Thursday night I proved the point. Realizing that I'm not in Manhattan, the climb to establish this culture is an uphill endeavor. I'm okay with that. I'm committed to bringing a sense of dignity to this place drenched with insecurity, including my own. Summer has proven to be a great time to start. The next step is convincing the oh-so-shy Seattleites of noteworthy appeal that I do want to go to YOUR party, and share you with your community... as for those who don't get it- let them eat cake.
Thank you to the gorgeous people who filled the Sorrento ball room and penthouse with their elegance and good will: Fashion designers, artists, musicians, media people, business people, branding people, Persians, Latinos, Slavs, Asians, gays, power couples, directors of non-profits, politicos, financial consultants, chefs, authors, poets, bloggers, and stylists. Thank you to Michelle Quisenberry for the lovely Prosecco; Kathy Casey and her Liquid Kitchen for the incredible cocktails; Jena Easton for delicious cake; Korene and Sheldon for late night pep talks; Mark for remembering imported vinyl. Bre for getting stuff done; Molly for pouring; The Sorrento's Barabra Malone, GM Jeff Jobe, and Kristin Shea; I hope you had a great time.
