Seasonally inspired, locally derived cuisine. The story of emmer&rye began with a vision of the connection between food and community. Eventually, that vision found a home in a hundred year-old Victorian house at the top of Queen Anne hill. There, skillfully crafted dishes reflect the true flavor of the food and honor the seasons. Varied plate sizes offer the opportunity to share and savor. And creative cocktails provide a backdrop for the intersection of food and community.
emmer&rye brings together Queen Anne residents and non-residents alike to celebrate the bounty of the Pacific Northwest. Emmer&rye focuses not only on serving the community, but also on purchasing from the community. Spending local and supporting small, like-minded businesses is part of emmer&rye’s ethos.
THE LAUNCH
No matter how busy she is with a full time career, school and a boyfriend, Korene Hubacka still has time for an enviable social life. This week her plans included a monthly cocktail party at The Sorrento Hotel, and the soft launch of new Queen Anne restaurant Emmer & Rye. Korene was able to get a tour of the of the kitchen and a sneak photo of Chef Seth Caswell and an associate to the Chef, Aaron Strauss. The wait staff was warm and gracious- Korene has been gushing about her server Lacey, saying that she gave excellent service and was absolutely lovely.
The modest and welcoming restaurant itself is in a home built around 1905, which has been remodeled into a restaurant. Korene found the dining experience to be a nice blend of good-cuisine-meets-dinner atop Queen Anne in a classic home environment. Korene herself is an excellent cook- I regard her opinion highly. Not to mention she puts on a full scale European spread for friends lucky enough to be on her guestlist. This experience was well suited for her tastes, and she gives it a solid thumbs up.
Korene and her beau, Jonathan Hirsch, enjoyed the wonderful dinner and great desserts with Dr. Battaglia and his wife Heather, from Bellevue. The Subterfuge Set is privy to the high style and fabulous taste of Heather Battaglia. We all got to experience her "Polka Dots and Pinstripes" party this fall in the Battaglia penthouse, one of the most fabulous parties of the year. In attendance were some of Seattle's social elite; Goldfarb Jeweler's, Fredda and Steve Goldfarb; Urban Influence's Pete Wright; Volterra's Michelle Quisenberry; social connector JJ Mckay; and philanthropist AJ Kamra to name a few. Looks like this little crew of foodies had a great dinner.
